PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Office of Workers' Compensation Insurance, Sickness and Maternity (OFATMA) and the French Red Cross partnered with President Michel Martelly to introduce the Pink Card which gives health coverage to 400 state workers and their families.
President Martelly conducted the launching of the Pink Card health initiative at a ceremony that coincided with the welcoming of a new physiotherapy department at OFATMA.
For on year, holders of the Pink Card and their families will have access to free health care at six hospitals, all operating in the West Department. But due to an insufficient number of doctors and health facilities, the new policy will take time to spread, lamented President Martelly.
On Sunday, a program called Ti Manman Cherie was launched by the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe to offer a modest monthly allowance of 400 - 800 gourdes ($10-$20[US]) to mothers with children in school and are Digicel customers.
