MIAMI, USA (defend.ht) - Yvenoline Dargenson got a judicial victory on Friday when Miami Dade Circuit Judge, Darrin Gayles, denied her North Miami Beach Seat 4 opponent, Beth Spiegel's, request to prevent her votes from being counted.
It was after a five hour hearing that Judge Gayles, according to Dargenson, “let me take my case before the voters.”
Dargenson is a mother of three and has worked as a Management Support Analyst for the Federal Government for the past 13 years. Her opponent, Spiegel, a North Miami Beach councilwoman, tried to diqualify her from the running on the basis of residency. Judge Gayles found that Spiegel had not proven a likelihood of success on the merits, and that she had an adequate remedy at law, according to Dargenson's council, former Mayor of North Miami, Frank Wolland.
Wolland expressed his dismay with North Miami Beach’s questionable practice of employing police officers to investigate candidates. “In America we should let the voters decide the candidate’s qualifications to hold office, not the police,“ he said of the pursuit of his client, Candidate Dargenson.
Early voting in North Miami Beach began on May 2nd, and the election is May 7th. Dargenson would say, “I’m so happy that the Judge upheld the people’s right to decide.”
